Can i make a thick workbench top by gluing hardwood strips to a plywood substrate?. I am building this unit for a small homebuilder who i happen to be good friends with. this is my first real paying project, so i want it to be perfect, or very nearly.. For best strength i'd suggest a hardwood bench top when using hold downs. there is a lot of torque on the sides of the hole and the mdf isn't designed for this type of stress since it is made from fine chips and dust.
